As a therapist - I use an integrative approach- ranging from cognitive behaviour therapy to internal family system to psychoanalytical therapy. Growing up because of my introspective parents- self-reflection and curiosity came to me naturally. My mother tells me the story of how I was the mother hen even for my older cousins even when I was 3 years old (I used to console them when they were crying and missing home at nursery) - so I do think empathy is also something that I had at an early age. This curiosity self-reflection and empathy came together for me in how I quite instinctually was fascinated and pulled to counselling as a meaningful career choice. My foray into Jungian psychoanalysis was when I read the book living an examined life- by James Hollis. He invites people into listening to their souls calling and what it means to grow up. Does it mean achieving benchmarks set by others or does it mean leaving behind expectations of others and finding your own voice and growing into the person you were meant to be?
